The seashore is an undeveloped barrier island. The island is made up of 56 miles of undisturbed beach. There is a working lighthouse with the keeper's quarters that houses a small museum and bookstore. The island is a protected loggerhead turtle nesting area, therefore certain areas of the beach are off limits during nesting and fall hatching. Access to the island is by private boat or ferry only with no maintained roads, park facilities, or fresh water. This is nature at it's purest.
