Historic Beaufort was founded in 1709. It is the third oldest town in NC. Many people find that crossing the bridges into Beaufort is like taking a giant step back in time. This seaport village affords visitors a glimpse at what life in Colonial America may have been like. With tree-lined streets and majestic Victorian homes, Beaufort's charm is evident as soon as you pull off Hwy. 70. Blackbeard, the fiercest of all pirates, was a regular guest. There are many ghost stories that hale from the Old Burying Grounds on Ann St. Beaufort Historical Association volunteer's would be eager to share a ghost story or two. Beaufort is the home to a number of attractions. The only way to appreciate your surroundings is to walk along the wooden boardwalk, stroll down the quiet streets, listen to the church bells toll and smell the salty air. Do not forget the great little shops tucked away for excited shoppers to discover and the great restaurants that are in the midst of everything. All this is just a short 10 mile drive from Atlantic Beach.
