    Indoor Craft Fair & Book Sale

    The longest running indoor craft fair and antiquarian book sale in Carteret County will be held by the county's Historical Society, which has been hosting this annual spring craft fair since 2008. The History Museum of Carteret County (formerly the History Place) is the venue for this show. Private craftsmen/vendors from all over the region - who specialize in ceramics, clothing, jewelry, silk flowers, glass, and much more hand crafted items will be available for sale inside the air-conditioned museum's auditorium. Desserts, created by the museum's members, will also be available for sale.

    The Mattie King Davis Art Gallery will welcome talented artist Jimmy Black as the featured artist for the months of April and May beginning with an opening reception in his honor on Thursday, April 6 from 5-7 pm.

    Jimmy Black was born in Richmond, Virginia. He attended school at Episcopal High School before studying at UNC Chapel Hill. Mr. Black worked in banking at Wachovia for 40 years before retiring to rekindle his love for painting. He and his wife split their time between Raleigh and Carteret County. Join the Beaufort Historical Association in welcoming Jimmy Black to the gallery.

     

    The Mattie King Davis Art Gallery, located in the historic Rustell House c.1732 on the Beaufort Historic Site, is the oldest art gallery in Carteret County.     Merry Time for Tots: Shark Tales!

    Beaufort Historic Association's Annual Easter Egg Hunt

    Annual Easter Egg Hunt & Family 1 Mile Walk/Fun Run

    Our Annual Easter Egg Hunt is scheduled for 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, April 15, 2017 at Rotary Park located at 2200 Mayberry Loop Road in Morehead City. The egg hunt activity areas are divided into three sections by the following age groups: 4 & under, 5-8, and 9-12. NO PETS PLEASE!

     

    Although thousands of eggs will be in each age section, kids tend to clean up these toy and candy-filled eggs much faster than they clean their rooms!! Plan to arrive early because the youth usually collect all the eggs in less than two minutes. DON’T BE LATE!! For more information call 252-726-5083.

     

    Following the Egg Hunt, bring the whole family to walk and/or run on the Rotary Park-O’Neal Field exercise trail. The 1 Mile Walk/Fun Run will begin at 10:00 a.m. and MCPRD staff will direct participants on the 1 mile course. The book officially launches in NYC on April 25, so this is a chance to get the book before it is available in stores.     Down East Folk Arts Society Concert – The Honey Dewdrops

    During the 43rd Annual wooden Boat Show, be sure to stop by the North Carolina Maritime Museum to see Blackbeard’s Queen Anne’s Revenge exhibit. In 1718, the notorious pirate Blackbeard lost his flagship, Queen Anne’s Revenge, when it ran aground in Beaufort Inlet. For more than 270 years, it was hidden by water and sand – the location a mystery to archeologists around the world. In 1996, private company Intersal, Inc. discovered the shipwreck. The Museum became the official repository for all artifacts from Blackbeard’s wrecked flagship, Queen Anne’s Revenge, among them cannons, grenades, belt buckles and beads.     Mosquito Run - 10K/5K/Hike

    This 10K & 5K run/hike, held at Fort Macon State Park will benefit the Friends of Fort Macon. The 10K & 5K course at Fort Macon State Park is not only one of the newest courses in the State, but already proven to be one of the most challenging courses in eastern North Carolina. The natural beauty of this course is unmatched. The course boardwalks cross natural wetlands and continues through an early growth maritime forest and thickets. It also wanders across pristine sand dunes. The 10K has the added challenge of running on the beach beside the Atlantic Ocean.

    Awards will be given to the top 3 M/F overall.

    Visitors to the Beaufort waterfront will have the opportunity to see the fishing boat that ecame the inspiration for the book and movie, Jaws.  The legendary Cricket II will be at the docks in Beaufort as part of the North Carolina Maritime Museum's 43rd Annual Wooden Boat Show.  Over forty years ago, Steven Spielberg's shark saga, Jaws, frightened millions of moviegoers out of the water.  The move was released in June 1975.

    10th Annual Kayak for the Warriors

    The tenth annual kayak and paddle board race will be on Saturday, June 3, 2017 at 10am, traversing a 3.2-mile route along the town’s beautiful canals and Bogue sound.  In the 2016 event, more than 140 participants raced or just paddled at a leisurely pace while enjoying the scenery. Kayakers of all ages and skill levels are welcome. In 2016 we raised $68,000 for Hope For The Warriors, a civilian non-profit organization supporting those who have sacrificed in the name of freedom.

    The 5K Run for 2017 is scheduled for Saturday, May 27 (Memorial Day weekend)  at 8am.

    The reception for 2017 is scheduled at the Pine Knoll Shores aquarium on Thursday, June 1 at 6pm.
