Free Summer Movie

Celebrate the 4th of July on the Crystal Coast

Come to nearby town, Emerald Isle to the Emerald Plantation Cinemas where your family can watch “Peter Rabbit” for free. This movie begins at 10:30 am and while the movie is free, you will have to purchase drinks and popcorn to go along with the movie. What a wonderful, fun thing to do with the kids, especially if they are younger.

Downtown Morehead City 4th of July Celebration

If you have never been to the beach during the 4th of July, then you have been missing out on this fun event. Come to Jaycee Park from 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm to see The Main Event Band. Dance and sing your hearts out as you jam to many different genres of music. At 9:00 pm the music will fade and soon you will be able to watch the Morehead City Fireworks display in the air. What a fun event for all ages and can be the highlight of your trip!

Here you and your family can get a different kind of view of the fireworks from aboard a scenic cruise. Skip the battle of finding the perfect spot to watch the fireworks with the family and just enjoy them from the boat. What a memorable trip to the beach this could be.

Head to the Circle in Atlantic Beach to be able to get your spot for the fireworks. You can view the fireworks from the beach and it’s like nothing you’ve ever seen before. And just before the fireworks extravaganza you can hear Robert McDuffy perform. The fireworks show will begin around 9:00 pm so don’t miss out on this fun!

It’s the biggest annual event that happens every year that is made for the biggest chocolate fan you know, and it will totally satisfy every sweet tooth out there. Enjoy a Sweet Treat on the Crystal Coast this Year

Here is what you need to know about this year’s Carolina Chocolate Festival. You must tell your friends and family about this chocolate adventure you need to attend. It is held during the first weekend of February every year and is held at the Crystal Coast Civic Center in Morehead City. It happens to be the largest chocolate festival in Eastern North Carolina. Tickets to the festival are $9 per adult, $2 for kids 5-12 and kids under 5 are free. Active duty Military personnel will be given free admission on Sunday with your Military ID. What a perfect way to start the weekend filled with treats and sweets!

It’s a Chocolate Lover’s Paradise

Enjoy a Sweet Great on the Crystal Coast this Year

Not only will you get your yearly dose of decadent chocolate during the festival, it’s also be dubbed as being a chocolate lover’s paradise. Did you know that there will be a Cocoa 5K Fun Run & Walk, a Chocolate Spa and so much more! And if you have a little baker in your family, then you must allow them to enter into the Jr Cup Cake Wars! If you are a NC Resident, then your child from ages 10-16 can enter in the very first Jr Cup Cake Wars. The entry is free, and you must submit 2 dozen cupcakes to serve at least 8 with chocolate being the main ingredient.

Chocolate will be literally everywhere, and you will find chocolate vendors galore tempting you everywhere you turn. From wall-to-wall cakes to chocolate bars and ice cream. This even offers you more than a sampling of everything chocolate. Join in the hourly pudding eating contest, and even the door prizes that will be given away such as the “Golden Ticket”. The Golden Ticket Grand Prize happens to be a trip to chocolate’s own amusement park, Hershey Park for 4!!

Celebrating Charity & Chocolate

Chocolate will not be the only thing that is being celebrated this weekend. Charity is the foundation of the event and allows the festival to continue year after year. The Carolina Chocolate Festival is a charitable organization that partners with local non-profit agencies that can all reap from the benefits and while enjoying chocolate. Some of the charitable organizations are Carteret County Domestic Violence, Second Blessings Community Outreach and Bridge Student Ministries. Downtown Countdown

Don’t miss this year the Downtown Countdown that happens to be one of the largest New Year’s Eve parties on the Crystal Coast. Head to downtown Morehead City on December 31, 2018 from 6:00 pm to Midnight to enjoy the views of the waterfront before you can take part of the first crab pot drop of the night. You and your family will be able to have fun with music, fire dancers, and magicians. Once the sun sets you and your family will be able to see a laser show and fun glow party. Once the crab pot drops, you will be treated with a wonderful firework display that can’t be missed off the Morehead City docks. 

New Year’s Eve Cannon Blast

Spend New Year’s on the Crystal Coast this Year

If you’re looking for something else to do that is in Atlantic Beach, then head over to Fort Macon on December 31, 2018 for some fun. Beginning at 6:00 pm, Fort Macon will be blasting off cannons to help bring in the new year. There will be live entertainment beginning at 6:00 pm and the cannon will be shot off at 7:00 pm to coincide with the Greenwich Mean Time. Don’t forget to bring a chair, blanket or food to help bring in the new year. 

Penguin Plunge

After the New Year’s Eve festivities have come and gone, do something that you will remember for years to come. On January 1, 2019 at 1:00 pm come to the 16th Annual Penguin Plunge in front of The Crabs Claw Restaurant. There is a minimum donation of $10 per person to join in the fun, if you’d like a 2019 Penguin Plunge Shirt donate $20 and if you’d like a 2019 Penguin Plunge Hooded Sweatshirt it’s a $35 donation. You can register for this event now or you can come on January 1st at 10:00 am to register. 

Resolution Run 

Spend New Year’s on the Crystal Coast this Year

Do you have a runner in your family? If so then this next event will be the perfect one for them. On Tuesday, January 1, 2019 you and your family can head to Beaufort to enjoy the 2019 Resolution Run 5K & 1 Mile Run. Beginning at 9:00 am you can register for the 1 mile run or the 5K to get a head start on your resolution of the new year. You can register online now for $25, if you register on race day it will be $30, kids 12 & under are free and military get a 10% discount. Race packets can be picked up on race day at 7:00 am at the First Citizens Bank parking lot on Front Street in Beaufort. 

First Day Hike

Not sure if you’re up to running on New Year’s Day, then why not head over to Fort Macon at 2:00 for a nice hike. Here you will start at the Visitor Center where you will go down Yarrow’s Loop Trail for a short hike. For a longer hike then you can walk 3.2 miles along the Elliot Coues Trail with your family. What a fun way to get the start of the new year going by hiking on one of the states most visited parks.

While there were many events that were cancelled at the beginning of the month, there are several that are still happening. 31st Annual Carolina Kite Festival

The 31st Annual Carolina Kite Festival is going to be held on October 27th & 28th from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm. This fun event is a free event open to the public for you and your family to enjoy. It will be held on the beach in front of Sands Villas Resort in Atlantic Beach, NC. This kite festival was designed as a big “Thank You” to their customers who purchase kites for their vacation. There will be a Night fly on Saturday night at 6 pm, so don’t miss out on the fun!

Halloween Carnival

If you and your family would like to enjoy another fun event in the area, then head to Emerald Isle for the night. Emerald Isle Parks and Recreation is hosting their very own Halloween Carnival this year for all those who want to join in. This event is open to the public and is fun for the whole family. The admission fee into the carnival is two bags of individually wrapped candy per child. Your family will be able to enjoy games, a cake walk, murals that glow, receive child ID kits and much more. Don’t miss out on this fun Friday night with the family!

Spooky Seas Trunk or Treat

The Atlantic Beach Police Department is hosting their very own “Spooky Seas Trunk or Treat” this year. On Tuesday, October 30th bring your family to the Atlantic Beach Town Park at 6:00 pm for some fun. Admission into the event is free of charge. You will get to experience a photo booth, candy, music, games and more. If you attend we encourage you to wear costumes and bring a bag for candy. Make this Halloween vacation the one your kids will be talking about for years to come.

Preschool Pumpkin Patch

The North Carolina Aquarium at Pine Knoll Shores is hosting a Preschool Pumpkin Patch for kids 5 and under. Attend this event for $4 in addition to the daily admission to the aquarium. There will be games, stories, crafts and more for your child to enjoy. The event will happen on Wednesday, October 31st from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm.

The 2018 North Carolina Seafood Festival (Updated)

The North Carolina Seafood Festival for 2018 has been cancelled

Unfortunately, the 32 Annual seafood festival has been cancelled due to the aftermath of Hurricane Florence. All is not lost as our community rebuilds and recovers from the storm.

Hurricane Relief Event Planned Instead

Along with great plans for the 2019 North Carolina Seafood Festival, this year the NCSF board is planning a hurricane relief event scheduled for November 3rd, 2018. This will be a one day event to benefit Carteret County and neighboring communities.

Stay up to date by visiting the NCSF facebook page. A facebook live video is planned for Tuesday, October 9th, at 1pm. This should provide more information on the planned relief event.

The 32nd Annual North Carolina Seafood Festival is returning the first weekend of October this year. Many locals and even people from around the state will come and visit the area just to head to this festival! Many people will stay in an Atlantic Beach vacation rental to be close to Morehead City just for this event. There are many different events happening for the weekend and you don’t want to miss out on the fun!

Friday, October 5th

Don't Miss the 32nd Annual North Carolina Seafood Festival

Friday is the big kick off to the festival and this isn’t a day you want to miss! Beginning at 1 pm you can head to Big Rock Deck to enjoy some cooking demonstrations. These will be happening using Challenge Butter and will be happening on the hour all weekend long. Don’t miss out on seeing what kinds of goodies they will be making. The Southern Outerbanks Boat Show will also be happening as well to help showcase the best boats on the coast. Enjoy some live entertainment and music for you to help start the weekend right by dancing and singing along.

Saturday, October 6th

Don't Miss the 32nd Annual North Carolina Seafood Festival

There will be a little more happening on Saturday for you and your family to enjoy. Go to the Family Fishing Tournament at Oceanana Pier in Atlantic Beach to the Bogue Inlet Fishing Pier located in Emerald Isle. You can also take advantage of entering into the 2018 Twin Bridges 8K Road Race for who like to run. And then there is the entertainment and the food. So much to do on this day.

Sunday, October 7th

On top of many of the other events happening through the weekend, don’t miss out on the Blessing of the Fleet. This is an event that gives tribute to those who bring their seafood to our tables and those who have lost their lives on the water. This is happening from 10 am – 12 pm so it’s something you don’t want to miss. Then you can also stay tuned for the Sailing Regatta happening at 12 pm for you and your family to see a competition on the water. What a fun event to watch just before heading home. Again, there will be amazing food for you and your family to enjoy and over 200 vendors for you to shop and eat from.

Atlantic Beach National Night Out

If you are looking to have fun with the locals then head over to the Town Park on August 7th from 6 – 8 pm. Held by the Atlantic Beach Police Department you will be able to enjoy bouncy houses, music, free food and prize giveaways! What a great way to get to meet the Mayor, Town Council and Town Manager of Atlantic Beach while you are on vacation! We hope to see you there!

Shackleford Banks Hike: Did Blackbeard See Horses?

Do you think that Blackbeard saw the horses of Shackleford Banks? Join in on a hike to the underdeveloped barrier island like Blackbeard may have seen while he was still alive. Happening  August 9, 2018 from 8:30 am – 12 pm at the NC Maritime Museum in Beaufort, NC. Please note that children under the age of 12 will not be able to attend this. Cost of the hike is $30 per person and they ask for you to register before you head to the museum that day for the hike. And be sure to wear comfortable shoes as you will be in different terrain.

Ahoy, Maties! If you are looking for a little fun with pirates then you should head over to Downtown Beaufort on August 10th & 11th for some fun! Come watch as the town comes to life with all the sights and sounds of pirates for the annual Beaufort Pirate Invasion. This is a 2 day pirate festival that offers your family fun and entertainment everyone will love. Get to visit the Living History demonstrations, check out the Blackbeard Exhibit and more. If you visit along the waterfront you will see multiple activities such as musical entertainment, magic shows, and so much more. Admission is free and it’s one way to enjoy learning about the history of Blackbeard. After all it is the year of Blackbeard!

Yo Ho Ho and a Bottle of Run 5K

If you like to run then maybe participating in the Yo Ho Ho and a Bottle of Run 5K. This is a fundraiser hosted by and to benefit the Beaufort Pirate Invasion. Registration opens up at 7:00 am on the day of the race, August 11, 2018. Around 8 am a cannon fire will resonate through the Beaufort area marking the beginning of the race. You will be able to see pirates along the course to encourage and cheer the participants on. It is $30 per person or $100 for a “crew” of 4. Don’t let this event pass you by. All are welcome to join in on the fun!

Crystal Coast Earth Day Celebrations
Each year April 22 marks the anniversary of the birth of the modern environmental movement in 1970 known as Earth Day. This global event occurs each year to educate, mobilize and activate citizens across the globe. It is the largest civic-focused day of action in the world with more than 1 billion people in 192 countries participating.

Earth Day Network, the organization that leads Earth Day worldwide, announced that Earth Day 2018 will focus on mobilizing the world to end plastic pollution. This will include creating support for a global effort to eliminate single-use plastics along with global regulation for the disposal of plastics.

Sponsored by the Town of Atlantic Beach come out and enjoy the fireworks display on Saturday, May 27 at 9 p.m. along the boardwalk at the Circle beach access. Bring your chairs, but please no pets or glass containers.
