For families who love to spend as much time outdoors as they can, then heading over to the Elliott Coues Nature Trail is for you. This is a 3.2-mile trail that is a newer walking trail that can be perfect for those who are looking for a hike or can ride your bikes on. Located at the North end of Fort Macon is where you will find this trail. Your family will be able to see different wildlife so be sure to bring a camera along with you and you can see nature too. The trail can be accessed by either the Fort Macon parking lot or the Beach Access Parking lot. Be sure to bring sunscreen, hats and even bug spray along with your ice-cold water as you explore nature together on this trail.

Rachel Carson Reserve

Do you have someone in the family who loves horses? Head over to the Rachel Carson Reserve where you and the family can view a coastal nature reserve. Located in Beaufort you will find several different islands you can explore as well as salt marshes and wild horses. Be sure to bring along with you plenty of sunscreen, a hat, sunglasses, and a camera. You don’t want to miss the wildlife you will be able to see and the natural beauty of the reserve. Beaufort Paddle

Another fun activity that you can do as a family is heading over to Beaufort and checking out Beaufort Paddle. Some of the things that you can do are rent a kayak whether it’s a single or tandem, Stand Up Paddleboards and do a tour. The tours are where you’ll be able to see some of the local outdoor activities by kayak or paddle boarding only. The length of the tours is around 2 hours long and you’ll be able to see Historic Old Towne Beaufort Waterfront, Bird Shoals and the Rachel Carson Reserve. From being able to find different exhibits from the Loggerhead Odyssey featuring Caretta’s Cove to the Living Shipwreck that holds 306,000 gallons of saltwater habitat. There is something for everyone in the family to enjoy and explore. And if you happen to have little ones, there is a Little Minnows Play Area just for them where they can play dress-up, ride and climb on cushioned toys and relax in a little book area. So many different adventures can be made here by visiting whether there is sunshine or rain. Be sure to get there early especially if it’s supposed to rain all day because it does get crowded in there.

Battle Works is a fun and exciting adventure that you can enjoy with the kids. Here you will be able to play realistic tactical laser tag and is one of the best ones on the coast of the Carolinas. They have been open for 3 years in the area and is located in Morehead City which is just over the bridge from the beach. Please note that all players must be 12 years old or older and must be 54” tall to play. This can be a fun activity for the older kids and for the adults. Bowling Alley Fun

North Carolina Maritime Museum in Beaufort is another amazing place you can head to on a rainy day. With many different exhibits that are always changing and different models and collections, the possibilities are endless. Admission to the museum is free of charge and it is fun for the whole family. Here you will be able to see many different artifacts from Blackbeard’s Ship, The Queen Ann’s Revenge. And after your lovely time there, then head over to waterfront for a bite to eat.
