Do you and your family have a vacation planned to visit Atlantic Beach this summer? If you do, then we need to tell you about a few different outdoor activities in the area. Doing new things on your vacation can be fun for everyone especially if they are within a driving distance of your Atlantic Beach vacation rental. Let’s look below at what some of the activities that your family can experience on your vacation this summer.

Elliott Coues Nature Trail

For families who love to spend as much time outdoors as they can, then heading over to the Elliott Coues Nature Trail is for you. This is a 3.2-mile trail that is a newer walking trail that can be perfect for those who are looking for a hike or can ride your bikes on. Located at the North end of Fort Macon is where you will find this trail. Your family will be able to see different wildlife so be sure to bring a camera along with you and you can see nature too. The trail can be accessed by either the Fort Macon parking lot or the Beach Access Parking lot. Be sure to bring sunscreen, hats and even bug spray along with your ice-cold water as you explore nature together on this trail.

Rachel Carson Reserve

Do you have someone in the family who loves horses? Head over to the Rachel Carson Reserve where you and the family can view a coastal nature reserve. Located in Beaufort you will find several different islands you can explore as well as salt marshes and wild horses. Be sure to bring along with you plenty of sunscreen, a hat, sunglasses, and a camera. You don’t want to miss the wildlife you will be able to see and the natural beauty of the reserve. Enjoy the day with the family as you explore the Rachel Carson Reserve together!

Beaufort Paddle

Another fun activity that you can do as a family is heading over to Beaufort and checking out Beaufort Paddle. Some of the things that you can do are rent a kayak whether it’s a single or tandem, Stand Up Paddleboards and do a tour. The tours are where you’ll be able to see some of the local outdoor activities by kayak or paddle boarding only. The length of the tours is around 2 hours long and you’ll be able to see Historic Old Towne Beaufort Waterfront, Bird Shoals and the Rachel Carson Reserve. You may even get to see a glimpse of a dolphin frolicking in the water. Enjoy this time with the family and get out and be adventurous together.

Coming in the month of August, you and your family will be able to enjoy a few of the Atlantic Beach local events. Atlantic Beach National Night Out

If you are looking to have fun with the locals then head over to the Town Park on August 7th from 6 – 8 pm. Held by the Atlantic Beach Police Department you will be able to enjoy bouncy houses, music, free food and prize giveaways! What a great way to get to meet the Mayor, Town Council and Town Manager of Atlantic Beach while you are on vacation! We hope to see you there!

Shackleford Banks Hike: Did Blackbeard See Horses?

Do you think that Blackbeard saw the horses of Shackleford Banks? Join in on a hike to the underdeveloped barrier island like Blackbeard may have seen while he was still alive. Happening  August 9, 2018 from 8:30 am – 12 pm at the NC Maritime Museum in Beaufort, NC. Please note that children under the age of 12 will not be able to attend this. Cost of the hike is $30 per person and they ask for you to register before you head to the museum that day for the hike. And be sure to wear comfortable shoes as you will be in different terrain.

Ahoy, Maties! If you are looking for a little fun with pirates then you should head over to Downtown Beaufort on August 10th & 11th for some fun! Come watch as the town comes to life with all the sights and sounds of pirates for the annual Beaufort Pirate Invasion. This is a 2 day pirate festival that offers your family fun and entertainment everyone will love. Get to visit the Living History demonstrations, check out the Blackbeard Exhibit and more. If you visit along the waterfront you will see multiple activities such as musical entertainment, magic shows, and so much more. Admission is free and it’s one way to enjoy learning about the history of Blackbeard. After all it is the year of Blackbeard!

Yo Ho Ho and a Bottle of Run 5K

If you like to run then maybe participating in the Yo Ho Ho and a Bottle of Run 5K. This is a fundraiser hosted by and to benefit the Beaufort Pirate Invasion. Registration opens up at 7:00 am on the day of the race, August 11, 2018. Around 8 am a cannon fire will resonate through the Beaufort area marking the beginning of the race. You will be able to see pirates along the course to encourage and cheer the participants on. It is $30 per person or $100 for a “crew” of 4. Don’t let this event pass you by. All are welcome to join in on the fun!

Fort Macon State Park

Fort Macon State Park has been known as a favorite for many families who come every year to the area. While many locals like to come visit for the reenactments, there are many other activities to do. Some of the other things you can do is hike, fish which is allowed throughout the year, take a picnic lunch to share with your family and friends or you can even go swimming from June to Labor Day. There is a boathouse with showers for you to enjoy and a refreshment stand that are open.

And for those who love wildlife, the Shackleford Banks Wild Horses located in the Beaufort Area will be the best part of your trip! These wild horses are located on the crystal coast for you to be able to go and see. This will be a highlight of your vacation to see them.

Spend Some Quality Time with Family

If you are looking for some good family competition, then head on over to a few places for miniature golf where every family member can have some fun. There are several different miniature golf places locally that you can give a try, but we have just a few fun places for you to check out. Not sure as to which one to give a try, then maybe you can give Lost Treasure Golf & Raceway a try which is in Salter Path, NC.

And if it happens to be raining on a day that you wanted to go spend some quality time with your family, then you should head to Pine Knoll Shores where you will find the North Carolina Aquarium that has been recently remodeled. This can be fun for all ages and know that on the days it does rain, it can get crowded.
